Arsenal To Make Important Moves In The Transfer Market This Week

Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger has certainly left it late to start his summer spending but reports doing the rounds this week are that he is eyeing up several new additions before the transfer window shuts and it is been reported that the major moves in the market by Arsenal are to be made this week.

After being handed a handsome £70 million to spend, Arsenal were linked with some of the world’s top stars, however what looked like a good start to the summer has turned out to be frustrating with Yaya Sanogo the club’s only summer purchase.

Stevan Jovetic and Gonzalo Higuain were both rumoured to be closing in on moves to the Emirates before they completed their switches to Manchester City and Napoli respectively. The Gunners pursuit of Luis Suarez looks to be stalling while their interest in Wayne Rooney looks like it will fall on deaf ears.

Arsenal scraped in to fourth place by the skin of their teeth last year and investment is something they desperately need if they want to improve. The first team has been cut down considerably with the exits of Vito Mannone (Sunderland), Andre Santos (Flamengo), Gervinho (Roma) along with Andrey Arshavin, Seb Squillaci and Denilson who left the club on free transfers, but no replacements have been bought in.

With two Champions League play-off qualifiers to play at the start of the season, the Gunners will need to add to their current squad-depth.

Luiz Gustavo of Bayern Munich is a potential new arrival. Pep Guardiola’s entrance at the Allianz Arena has seen Mario Gotze and Thiago Alcantara join an already congested midfield. Gustavo found time hard to come by last season and will struggle even further now and wants to seek a move for more first-team opportunities. The Brazilian’s arrival could trigger a flux of new players ahead of the season.

Ashley Williams, Erik Lamela and Ilkay Gundogan have all been mentioned recently, could they be the signings Arsenal and their fans have been waiting for.
