Real Madrid are paying the price for a summer splurge. They spent heavily on Bale and Isco. Now they have to trim down their squad. Perez has declared the Spanish outfit won’t be in the running for Suarez in the winter window but he has now gone further to declare they would even be open to selling some of their fringe stars.
“We’re delighted with the current squad. We’re not going to sign anyone in January. We’ve bought a lot of players and some will have to leave,”
In the light of this development, who are those that might be at the receiving end of the axe? Xabi Alonso and Angel Di Maria are two stars that might just be cashed in on. While Arsenal are not in need of Alonso, we have Arteta, Flamini and fast developing Ramsey, we might just be interested in Di Maria. Our wing needs some beefing up. Di Maria has featured so far this season, making three starts and two appearances off the bench. His place on either wings have been usurped by Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. This means he could be open to a move should Arsenal reignite their interest in him in the winter or summer window.
Though Arsenal are not desperately in need of a winger owing to Cazorla’s ability to play there but they can make do with a player of the Argentine’s quality on the wings especially the left. Been surplus to requirements in Real doesn’t mean he is a bad player, it just means they have too many good players for the same position.
Declaring Di Maria surplus to requirements might be a blessing in disguise as we won’t have to pay over the odds to land the Argentine since they are the ones trying to sell him rather than us trying to persuade them to sell as in the case of Higuain.
