Arsenal are determined to bring in a marquee signing despite their stalling negotiations with Liverpool over Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan has publicly aired his desire to leave Anfield but the club have refused to sell, rejecting two bids from Arsenal, the latest being a bid of £40,000,001.
With a deal for the striker slowly fading away, Arsene Wenger has switched some of his focus on to Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney. Chelsea have been in hot pursuit of the England international with themselves having two bids rejected.
There are talks that United may be willing to negotiate with Arsenal over Chelsea as they don’t see the Gunners as threatening as Chelsea to their Premier League crown, even with Rooney in their team.
Rooney himself is believed to favour a move to Stamford Bridge but would still be open to a move to the Emirates, as his want for a move away from United grows stronger. The player is yet to play a single minute of pre-season as the possibility of his transfer grows stronger.
The Gunners have already missed out on their previous targets in Gonzalo Higuain and Stevan Jovetic while their trail for Suarez looks to be ending and Wenger is eager to spend his newly found wealth well.
27-year old Rooney was unsettled mid-way through last season as Robin Van Persie forced his way to spear head the Manchester United attack with Rooney sacrificed often in a midfield role to accommodate and was left out of key ties in the Champions League too.
He now wants to join a club where he can once again be the star man upfront.
