Another Arsenal player might be on the move. According to reports, Championship outfit Leeds United are interested in taking Arsenal youngster Thomas Eisfeld on loan for the rest of the season.
The Championship outfit are chasing promotion back to the Premier League this season after a lengthy absence, and manager Brian McDermott feels the addition of some extra quality on loan could be a major boost to his side’s chances.
McDermott, a former Arsenal player, admitted earlier this season that he had been in touch with the north London club about a number of their young players, including winger Serge Gnabry.
However, Leeds have now switched their attention to another German youth player, Eisfeld, who is more likely to be made available due to his status as a reserve at the Emirates Stadium.
This is good news and one that would help Eisfeld’s education. The German youngster is certainly talented but lacks experience. At this stage of his football education, what he needs is regular football at a competitive level and currently, he won’t be able to get that Arsenal not because Wenger is unwilling to give him the chance but the stakes are too high and there are more matured players in the fold that we cannot afford to risk a youngster.
Arsenal’s ouster from the Capital one Cup doesn’t also help his cause. The 4th tier competition was Wenger’s nursery for his talented youngsters but now that the Gunners are out, the youngsters that aren’t in the first team might find regular competitive football hard to come by.
A move to Leeds United will avail him more regular football at a competitive level. The Championship might not be at the level of the Premier League but is certainly a step higher than the reserves league. Should he play well with Leeds and help them secure promotion to the elite division, he might just secure a season long loan there next season and that way, have a whole season of regular run in the Premier League.
