Arsenal are ready to table a formal offer for Atalanta midfielder Dejan Kulusevski as Sven Mislintat kick-starts a summer overhaul in north London, according to reports in Italy via the Mirror.
Mislintat has been making quite an impression at Arsenal since arriving from Borrusia Dortmund as our new Head of Recruitment after playing a key role in the signings of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The 45-year-old has been tasked with overseeing our summer transfer business ahead of what’s going to be a pivotal window for the club following another disappointing domestic campaign.
While ready-made first team players are a priority, Mislintat is also focussing his attention on finding young up-and-coming talent and it seems he’s identified a rising Swedish star.
The Mirror are citing reports from calciomercato that claim Arsenal are ready to formalise their interest in Atalanta midfielder Kulusevski after being impressed by his displays this season.
The 17-year-old has been starring for the Atalanta U19 team this campaign having provided 5 goals and 7 assists so far while he also netted 17 goals in 22 games for the U17s last year.
Kulusevski is predominantly a central midfielder but he can also play on either wing so his versatility would be a useful asset if he did join Arsenal at the end of the season.
We obviously need to strengthen our first team as improvements need to be made throughout Arsene Wenger’s squad but it’s good to see the club are also not ignoring the youth set-up and Kulusevski would be a solid addition.
However, Arsenal will face plenty of competition for his signature as the newspaper report says a whole host of Serie A sides are also showing a keen interest in the teenager.
