Arsenal could make a shock move for Benfica striker Oscar Cardozo after the player admitted he wants to leave the Portuguese club according to reports.
The Gunners have made a striker their priority signing but missed out on Gonzalo Higuain, who signed for Napoli. Luis Suarez is the club’s current main target but Liverpool’s refusal to sell has left the deal stalling.
The Paraguayan has been in fine form for Benfica, firing them to the UEFA Europa League final and now feels its time to move on to further his career. His impressive goal scoring displays have attracted interest across Europe and his availability has alerted Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger is still in hot pursuit of Liverpool’s Suarez but with the likeliness that he could miss out on the Uruguayan, he is readying a bid for the free scoring Cardozo. The striker was believed to be close to a move to Turkey but a move broke down.
Despite the break down in negotiations, the striker is still looking for a move away
“I thank the fans for always being with me”
“But, after everything that has happened, it will be very hard to find the motivation to continue. My head is far away from Benfica.”
The striker would cost between £10-15 million but would give Arsenal a good striking option as they look to end a torrid trophyless run that was extended to eight years after last season.
