Arsenal are looking at Ajax’s Christian Eriksen as another option to bolster their midfield. Arsenal, who seem to have lost out on latest Samba sensation Bernard, want to strengthen their midfield and believe the Danish star is perfect for it.
The Danish playmaker, who scored 13 goals last season in all competitions, can prove to be the perfect replacement for Santi Cazorla, who will need some rest during the season, after being run into the ground last season, playing all of Arsenal’s league games. The highly rated midfielder has been courted by Liverpool this whole summer, and was rumoured to be close to joining the Reds, but a deal never materialised. Christian Eriksen is known to be a midfield prodigy, one of the finest to come out of Ajax’s famed academy, and would definitely be a great coup for Arsenal and Arséne Wenger, if they can manage to pull it off.
Meanwhile, Shakhtar Donetsk have had a bid for Bernard accepted by Atletico Mineiro, but Bernard is said to be keen to join FC Porto, after his agent, Adriano Spadoto and Brazil international Hulk advised him to go to Portugal to continue his development.
In other Arsenal news, Arsenal drew 2-2 with Italian side Napoli, with a late comeback, scoring two goals in the second half, after being 2-0 down after the first half and Lukas Podolski having missed a dubious penalty. Olivier Giroud said after the match, “We are expecting a striker” [to join]. So it’s not if, it’s when,” while Arséne Wenger has said, “We will work with our targets until the end of the transfer window.”
