Arsenal’s defensive injury woes have led them to Juanfran of Atletico Madrid.
Juanfran is an experienced, natural right-back and would be able to cover for the injured Bacary Sagna. The Gunners do have Carl Jenkinson in that position too but Wenger would like a senior defender to call upon.
His impressive form last season saw him capped five times by Spain, an achievement in itself. His versatility would be a great asset for the Gunners as he is able to play as a right-winger if needed. Another positive is that he would be an excellent replacement should Sagna leave this summer or next but could stunt the growth of Jenkinson.
Atletico would expect at least £10 million for his services and Wenger should look to recruit players he desperately. The Gunners are worryingly thin in midfield and need a top striker to compete. A central defender is a higher priority than a fullback while Wenger has been in the market for a goalkeeper too.
The Gunners injury worries has seen Wenger look at possible defensive options but in the long-term a move for a full-back wouldn’t be the best option. A short term loan would be a better options but Atletico would not allow one of their best players to leave on loan just to suit Arsenal.
