ARSENAL are reportedly putting together one final push to try and tempt Mesut Ozil to stay at the Emirates Stadium.
The Germany international is out of contract at the end of the season and it is thought the Gunners will have to cash in in January or risk losing him for free.
The winter window opens in three weeks time and Ozil will then be able to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club.
But Arsenal chiefs have reportedly drawn up a contract extension that would make him the highest paid player in the club’s history – above previous legends such as Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp.
According to reports, the Gunners are willing to offer Ozil £275,000-per-week to stay on their books.
But the midfielder wants to move on to a club where he can genuinely challenge for every trophy.
He would also be able to demand a larger wage if he was to walk away for free.
The Mirror say that Barcelona registered an approach for the 29-year-old last month but their interest has since cooled.
Manchester United are also said to be keen on the playmaker.
Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez is in a similar boat to Ozil and looks certain to be heading for the exit door.
That has left boss Arsene Wenger even more desperate to keep hold of Ozil.
