With the Arsenal future of French full back Bacary Sagna becoming uncertain, Arsenal are already scouting for potential replacements. The latest name to be linked with the Gunners is AC Milan’s Italian defender Ignazio Abate.
Reports have linked the right back with the San Siro exit. Arsenal and PSG have been linked and are set to vie for his signature. Abate’s candidacy is one that should excite Arsenal fans as he is hugely experienced and would continue the mentorship of Jenkinson and Yennaris. He is already vastly experienced having been playing for the Italian giants in the Serie A and Champions League.
Getting him is very plausible as the past sale of stellar names Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Kevin Prince Boateng has proven that the Italians are always willing to sell provided the offered price is right.
Arsenal won’t be the only candidates vying for his signature as the reports have also linked French big spenders PSG with a move for him. Arsenal will have to move fast if they intend beating the French champions to his signature.
But should PSG beat Arsenal to his signature, the Gunners’ chances of keeping Sagna might just have been brightened. I doubt if Sagna will want to play second fiddle to another right back at PSG. Whether we end up keeping Sagna or we get Abate, I am fine provided our right back position is in the hands of an experienced player and not a rookie.
