According to many reports from France this morning, Arsenal are still chasing highly rated Lille and France under 20 star, Florian Thauvin. Thauvin had surprised all that thought he would be on the move to a bigger club last January by agreeing to move to Lille in a 4 and half year deal. Newcastle were reportedly close to signing him last January for a fee believed to be 6 million but he chose to remain in France. He was however loaned back to his then parent club Bastia where he did extremely well scoring a total of 12 league goals.
Now rumours claim Thauvin may actually be on his way to Arsenal this summer. Wenger who is a long term admirer of the midfielder is reportedly set to make his move for the French man before the end of the current transfer window. Although Arsenal seem to be leading the chase according to reports, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham are also reportedly interested in Thauvin whose performance at the Under 20 World has helped in increasing the demand for his service.
However, his current club Lille have categorically stated that they will not be selling Thauvin any time soon for any price. Lille chairman Michel Seydoux said :
“We know exactly what we want at Lille and I am stubborn. We will take our time for Florian to adapt to the group as we did in the past with Gervinho or Dimitri Payet,”
It is however believed that due to Lille’s financial condition, a bid of 15 million and above may see them letting go the highly promising midfielder. If he signs for Arsenal, he will be the second France Under 20 player Arsenal are signing this summer after they completed the signing of France under 20 striker at the World cup Yaya Sanogo.
