After a frustrating summer, Arsenal are determined to make significant moves in the transfer market and have ear-marked Benzema as their main target. The Gunners had earlier targeted his former strike colleague Gonzalo Higuain before his move to Napoli.
The club are still in early negotiations over the French striker but are monitoring Costa in case a deal is unable to be reached. Should Arsenal be successful in their pursuit of Benzema then Madrid will ironically target Suarez as his replacement, the forward Arsenal were trying to sign themselves a few weeks ago.
In their pursuit of Suarez, Liverpool lodged a £23 million bid for Costa to act as Suarez’s replacement but it was rejected. The player then signed a new contract to commit his future to Atletico Madrid but Arsenal are confident they will still be able to lure him to the Emirates if they can’t land Benzema.
It will just take one transfer to create a transfer merry go round that could benefit Arsenal with the club strengthening with Benzema with weakening Liverpool with the departure of Luis Suarez.
