Arsenal legends David Seaman and Lee Dixon reported deals for Gonzalo Higuain and Marouane Fellaini can be completed as soon as possible.
Higuain is apparently close to sealing a record breaking £22 million move from Real Madrid having agreed personal terms over the weekend while Everton’s Fellaini is available for £23 million due to a release clause in his contract. The two transfers would cost a combined £45 million, using a large chunk of the estimated £70 million Arsene Wenger has to spend.
The Gunners are in need of a midfield enforcer as well as a through and through goal scorer. Former left-back Dixon is particularly excited about the possible arrival of Higuain. “If it comes off, hopefully from an Arsenal point of view, he’s quality through and through. He will score goals there’s no doubt about that. He will get chances at Arsenal because they do create chances, they play his type of game so I think he’ll fit in really well.”
Higuain has been pushed out of the Madrid side ever since the arrival of Karim Benzema in 2009. However, the striker has had enough and has decided to leave. The transfer saga has dragged on due Juventus’ interest and the fact Real Madrid have had no manager. However, Arsenal beat the Italian champions to his signature a few weeks ago with their purchase of Carlos Tevez proving so. Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment as Madrid manager should seal Higuain’s arrival to the Emirates.
Iconic ‘keeper Seaman is more excited about Fellaini’s transfer. “He is a great player and Arsenal have got to change their ways a little bit to get the best out of the team. You’ve got to have your own strengths and he has certainly got a lot of them especially aerial strength. If he does join I think he’ll be a great signing.”
The Everton midfielder is known for his physical presence, something Arsenal lack. They have plenty of technically gifted players who can play the quick passing game but only really have Olivier Giroud and Abou Diaby who can offer the aerial route, however the latter is always injured. Per Mertesacker is tall but not very strong. Fellaini can offer strength and height as well as good defensive work and an eye for goal.
