Arsenal Holds Secret Talks With 27 Million Rated Striker

Arsenal are believed to have held talks with Tottenham target Erik Lamela about a move to the Emirates. The Gunners are looking to finally start their summer spending after a frustrating few months.

The club have seen targets Gonzalo Higuain and Luiz Gustavo sign for other clubs with Manchester United and Liverpool refusing to sell Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez respectively leaving Arsenal with a list of targets but no arrivals.

They did manage to bring Yaya Sanogo to the Emirates on a free transfer but the 20 year old is a transfer for the future. Wenger has had to sit and watch neighbours Tottenham invest heavily in their squad as they look to finally break in to the top four.

Spurs have bought in Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Nacer Chadli and Roberto Soldado and were in advanced talks with both Willian and Erik Lamela before the former opted for a move to Chelsea instead. Arsenal hope to carry out the same swoop for Lamela.

The player has met Arsenal officials to discuss a possible move to Arsenal. The South American netted 15 goals for Roma last season and has widely tipped for a big money move to one of Europe’s elite clubs.

Arsenal’s 3-0 away victory over Fenerbahce has put them in a good position to make the Champions League group stages giving more incentive for players to join the club. Wenger is yet to spend a single penny this summer but has been given considerable finances to use allowing a £27 million move. The transfer of Lamela will also be a dig at rivals Tottenham while showing they are a more attractive destination.

Arsenal fans have endured a frustrating transfer window this summer but there could be light at the end of the tunnel with a major spending spree in the final week of the transfer window, starting with Lamela.
