Former Arsenal player and legend Martin Keown has told Arsenal fans that care to listen to cheer up and be happy that their club is no longer selling stars but instead bidding for big name players that will push the team forward.
Talking to Sky sports the former Arsenal player said he believe the fans should feel encouraged as the club is doing all they can to actually bring in players who can be regarded as world class which is a change from the norm of selling key players.
“It was a demonstration to Arsenal fans,” said Keown.
“The club were saying ‘We have £40m there. We have tried to buy someone else’s best player for a change’. It has shown how serious Arsenal are about spending money.
“In the past, Arsene has nurtured them, then lost them just when they are at their best, as was the case with Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie.
“Now he needs to go out and buy an obvious talent, someone who is going to hit the ground running, and they don’t come cheap.
“Fair play to Liverpool for hanging on to Suarez but Arsenal still need to buy two or three players. If they do, I think there is a real chance.”
Arsenal are currently trying to sign Luiz Suarez from Liverpool. They have had a bid of 35 million pounds and a cheeky bid of 40 million plus 1 pound bid also rejected. However, according to reports, Arsenal has decided to continue to try to sign the Uruguayan and are set to put in an another bid closer to 50 million which they believe should be good enough to convince Liverpool to sell the Uruguayan.
