Arsenal Fans Should Be Happy That Arsenal Is Trying To Sign World Class Players – Martin Keown

Martin Keown

Former Arsenal player and legend Martin Keown has told Arsenal fans that care to listen to cheer up and be happy that their club is no longer selling stars but instead bidding for big name players that will push the team forward.

Talking to Sky sports the former Arsenal player said he believe the fans should feel encouraged as the club is doing all they can to actually bring in players who can be regarded as world class which is a change from the norm of selling key players.

“It was a demonstration to Arsenal fans,” said Keown.

“The club were saying ‘We have £40m there. We have tried to buy someone else’s best player for a change’. It has shown how serious Arsenal are about spending money.

“In the past, Arsene has nurtured them, then lost them just when they are at their best, as was the case with Samir Nasri, Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie.

“Now he needs to go out and buy an obvious talent, someone who is going to hit the ground running, and they don’t come cheap.

“Fair play to Liverpool for hanging on to Suarez but Arsenal still need to buy two or three players. If they do, I think there is a real chance.”

Arsenal are currently trying to sign Luiz Suarez from Liverpool. They have had a bid of 35 million pounds and a cheeky bid of 40 million plus 1 pound bid also rejected. However, according to reports, Arsenal has decided to continue to try to sign the Uruguayan and are set to put in an another bid closer to 50 million which they believe should be good enough to convince Liverpool to sell the Uruguayan.

  1. In retrospect, the end of Arsenal as a competitive club came with the departure of David Dein. We now understand how important he was for the club. Even with a large war chest, Arsenal cannot complete signings.

    1. Much as David Dein was a good executive I don’t think he was more schooled in football matters than Wenger! The world is dynamic and not static and Dein couldn’t have stayed at Arsenal forever! Much as Keown, Tony Adams, Thierry Henry etc had to leave so too had David Dein. We can’t reverse what has past. Even after Dein a lot of good players were bought to wit Eduardo, Rosicky, Walcott, Nasri, Adebayor, Song, Cazorla, Arteta, Koscielny, Giroud etc. The fact that Arsenal has been continuously finishing above 16 or 17 clubs for the period since Dein’s departure means that there has been life after David Dein and the situation will only get better. Have you asked yourself why Wenger got rid of all the under-performing players? Surely it can’t have been for no reason! It means that those who stay either perform to their best or they will also suffer the same fate. Secondly, it means that the club intends to recruit better players in their place.

  2. MARTIN KEOWN SURPRISES ME IF HE THINKS WENGER IS SERIOUS ABOUT
THESE WORLD CLASS PLAYERS HE’S GOING FOR, ” WENGER IS A FIRST CLASS CONMAN AND ALWAYS WILL BE” THESE PLAYERS ARE SMOKE SCEENS
TO KEEP THE SUPPORTERS QUITE, ARSENAL WILL GET NO BIG TIME PLAYERS
ALL WE WILL GET IS,FREE TRANSFERS,AND YOUNG KIDS,AND WHEN THE WINDOW CLOSES ,HE WILL JUST SAY ,THERE WASN’T A LOT ABOUT,AND THE GUY GETS AWAY WITH IT,SEASON AFTER SEASON, A WEEK AFTER THE WINDOW OPEND,WENGER SAID,HE HAD NO NEED TO SPEND ON NEW PLAYERS,HE COULD WIN THE PREMIERSHIP DIVISION WITH THE PLAYERS HE’S GOT. “THE ANSWER TO THAT IS ,NEVER IN YOUR LIFE”. UP THE GUNNERS OUT WITH WENGER.

    1. Much as I may not agree with Wenger’s methods I find it simply repugnant for some fans to trivialise serious issues and in the process expose their own childishness! Why on earth would Wenger use such silly gimmicks with fans? Remember this is not an idiot we are talking about. This is a manager of repute. A man who has been at the helm of top football for over two decades; therefore it is despicable for some fans to make Wenger look like a jester or street clown! It defeats their own cause to make themselves look ridiculous! This is not how cultured people present their issues!
