West Bromwich Albion want to sign Mathieu Debuchy in the winter window, according to reports in France.
L’Equipe claim that the Baggies are considering an offer for the right-back, who wants to leave over his lack of game time.
Alan Pardew’s side are 19th in the table, thanks to Mike Dean’s help lifting them off the bottom. So they need all the reinforcements they can get.
The French outlet also claim that the 32-year-old has dreams of getting back in the France squad.
The World Cup is coming up this summer, and the former Newcastle man hasn’t earned a cap since 2015. However, L’Equipe write that his 2016 loan to Bordeaux got him in Deschamps’ European Championship squad first draft.
He had to withdraw in the end, after an injury, but he’s hoping for a similar comeback this year.
Debuchy has already publicly confirmed he wants to leave the club in January.
He told RMC Sport he wants to “find another challenge” in late December. However, it’s hard to begrudge him a move, considering how well he’s played when called upon.
Many fans expected out-of-practice, unfit performances, but the defender’s helped Arsenal to four clean sheets in six, and scored a goal as well.
As long as he keeps that up until he goes, it’s hard to complain.
West Brom paid £6.75m to bring Kieran Gibbs to the Hawthornes in the summer but will be hoping that Debuchy comes a lot cheaper. His current market value is believed to be in the region of £2.2m.
