After failing in their attempt to sign former Bayern Munich man Luiz Gustavo, Arsenal are now close to agreeing a gentle man agreement with Bayern Leverkusen that will see Arsenal complete the signing of Lars Bender once the January transfer window opens. Wenger tried to sign the high rated midfielder from Bayern Leverkusen in the last transfer window but a widely reported bid of about 19 million pounds was rejected by Leverkusen.
According to daily star who themselves are quotes sources in Germany, Arsenal will be going back to Bayern Leverkusen prior to the January window with a bid of 25 million pounds which the Arsenal manager believes will be good enough to prise away the high rated midfielder from Bayern Leverkusen. The interesting thing is that the book makers are now slashing odds on the Bayern Leverkusen man to play for the gunners this season. Bender is now at 6/1 favorites to play for Arsenal in January.
If signed, Bender will be the fourth German to sign for Arsenal after Podolski, Per Mertesacker and Ozil join the gunners in previous transfer windows. Aside Podolski, Mertesacker and Ozil, Arsenal also have in the ranks German youngsters such as Thomas Elsfeld, Gnarby and Zelalem who is American German.
