Arsenal have had a £8.5 million offer rejected for Lyon playmaker Clement Grenier according to French newspaper Le10. The Gunners have been linked with a move for the young midfielder and that has been backed up with a multi-million pound bid.
Arsene Wenger still likes the pass and move technique and Grenier can fulfill that role perfectly. His flair and technical ability make him a suitable fit at the Emirates and Wenger has identified him as a key summer target. His versatility can see him play on the flanks or behind the striker.
Lyon are desperate to keep the 22-year old and are in the process of offering the France international new terms with the player currently having only one year left on his contract. He was a constant throughout the season as Lyon qualified for the Champions League with a third place finish in Ligue 1.
He is said to be open to a move to the Emirates but is equally happy at staying at the Stade Gerland for another season before making the step up to an even bigger European team. The Gunners hope Grenier can be the key to help them end their trophy barren run.
Wenger is keen to add another attacking midfielder to compliment Tomas Rosicky, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere and Grenier is considered his first option with moves for fellow Lyon team-mate Yoan Gourcuff and Nani of Manchester United also interesting the Arsenal boss.
The Gunners are after a goalkeeper, centre-back, holding midfielder and a striker as well as an attacking midfielder as Wenger looks to completely overhaul his squad with a hefty £70 million transfer kitty.
Andrey Arshavin, Seb Squillaci and Denilson have already been shown the door with outgoing transfers for Johan Djourou and Niklas Bendtner currently in negotiations.
