Thomas Eisfield, who shone in the pre-season of 2012, is included alongside German youngster Serge Gnabry who tasted first team football last season. They are accompanied by Chuba Akpom, Chuks Aneke, Kris Olsson and 16-year-old Gedion Zelalem. Rookie goalkeeper Damian Martinez also travels with the team.
Ryo Miyaichi, who spent last year on loan at Wigan Athletic is amongst the travelling squad as he returns to his hometown when the Gunners take on Nagoya Grampus.
The remainder of the squad are filled out by first team regulars however Spanish duo Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal have been given extra time off due to their Confederations Cup participation. Thomas Vermaelen misses the tour with a back problem while Gervinho’s sickness rules him out. New signings Yaya Sanogo is representing France at the U20 World Cup, where they take on Ghana in the final.
Arsenal start their friendlies on Sunday against an Indonesia Dream Team before facing the Vietnam national team the following Wednesday. The Gunners then travel to Japan for a reunion for Ryo and Arsene Wenger as they take on Nagoya Grampus on the 22 July with the game against Urawa Red Diamonds four days later finishing the tour.
The team travel back to London to host the Emirates Cup. Napoli, Galatasaray and FC Porto will all take part but Arsenal won’t face the latter. The team fly out to Helsinki to end their pre-season with a friendly against Premier League rivals Manchester City a week before the league opener with Aston Villa.
