If reports from Russian media outlet Izvestia are anything to go by, Arsenal will have to battle with Zenith St-Petersburg for the signing of high rated Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Odil Ahmedov. The high rated Uzbekistan has been scouted several times by Arsenal scouts in the last 2 years and the gunners are now ready to make a move for the midfielder in the January transfer window according to the reports.
The player was thought to be on his way to Arsenal in the just concluded summer transfer window but a move failed to materialize although the interest seems to have gone cold but with the gunners constant battle with injuries, Wenger is thought to be ready to sign in one more midfielder to cover up for injuries once the January window opens.
However, Arsenal will not find it easy to sign the player as money bags Zenith St-Petersburg are also keen on the player. Arsenal were reluctant to pay the player’s 10 million pounds asking price but if Izvestia are to be believed, Zenith is prayed to pay the price and should Wenger still want the player, he may have to match Zenith’s bid or risk losing the player.
However, if recent quotes attributed to the player are true, Wenger may have a good chance of signing the player if he wants.
“It is true I have interest from Arsenal – their scouts have watched me in every match this season,” he said earlier his summer.
“If I move there, I could be a huge success but there is no bid yet.
“Of course, I am happy at Anzhi, but I’d like to try England or Spain.”
