French daily newspaper L’Equipe has revealed that Liverpool are the latest club to join the race for Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye. The French footballer has already caught the eye of Arsenal, PSG and Roma, but it appears the Reds are set to make a move as well.
Brendan Rodgers is a bit short of options in the centre of the park and the belief is that the 27-year-old would be a great addition to the squad at Anfield. And while Newcastle are not exactly keen on selling their prized asset, they might not be able to resist a big money offer in the January transfer window.
Yohan Cabaye was keen on a move away from St James’ Park this summer, choosing to go on ‘strike’ after Newcastle rejected Arsenal’s offer for him but instead of increasing the offer for him, the Gunners opted to make a big money move for Mesut Ozil who was then at Real Madrid. He seemed settled for now after posting some good performances for the Magpies but he could be leaving St. James’ Park in the coming months if an offer comes in for him from some of the top clubs.
Arsenal were keen on him in the summer but I doubt if Wenger will look his way again in the winter window after the summer signing of Mesut Ozil and the brilliant performances of Flamini and Ramsey so far this season. That might just leave the coast clear for Liverpool to pounce.
