Bayern Munich could sign Olivier Giroud as backup for Robert Lewandowski, according to reports.
Bayern are looking to ease the burden on star striker Lewandowski and give manager Jupp Heynckes more options up front. According to the Express, they could try to sign Olivier Giroud in January.
The 31-year-old is very much the second-choice striker at Arsenal now, with Alexandre Lacazette leading the line. However, he said in the summer that he was happy at Arsenal and wanted to fight for his place.
Arsene Wenger has been determined to give Giroud games wherever he can. He’s started in every Europa League and Carabao Cup game this season, and has come off the bench in every Premier League game as well.
With his spot in the France starting eleven under threat, Giroud will want to be playing as much football as possible. With that in mind, a move from Arsenal’s bench to Bayern’s bench wouldn’t make a great deal of sense.
Giroud has three goals for Arsenal this season, including an overhead kick against Red Star Belgrade. He has been ruled out of Arsenal’s game against Tottenham, but could be back in time for the trip to Cologne.
