Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona are all joining Juventus in the race for Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin, according to reports in Spain.
Sport writes that the ‘reconstruction’ of Arsenal brought about by a poor season and Arsene Wenger’s departure will leave them needing cash, and they’ll consider the sale of one of their star defenders as a result. They name all of the above four clubs as contenders for the player’s signature if he leaves.
The media have already linked Juventus to Bellerin plenty of times. On Tuesday, Cadena SER claimed the Italians were in ‘very advanced conversations’ over a transfer. No wonder, considering how short the side are on right-back options right now.
Chelsea and Manchester United could also use an improvement on the right-hand side. None of the Blues’ options look particularly strong, and United’s Antonio Valencia is 33 in August.
Nonetheless, just as we pointed out on Tuesday, it doesn’t seem like Bellerin actually wants to leave.
The Spaniard said in a recent YouTube video that his heart is set on Arsenal’s number 2 shirt this summer. He added he’d already spoken to Vic Akers (the kit man) about securing it. That’s unlikely to be something you worry about if you know you’re going. Plus he has a contract until 2023.
For now, I’m still hesitant to believe there’s anything in these stories.
