Liverpool are closing-in on Jean-Michael Seri after agreeing a £20m deal with Nice to sign the midfielder ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham, according to a report by TeamTalk.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for another midfielder and the Reds boss has been forced to look at alternatives after failing to persuade RB Leipzig to sell Naby Keita.
It seems Klopp has now turned his attention to Seri as the Guardian reported earlier this week that Liverpool had made contact with Nice to express their interest in signing the midfielder.
Seri has developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in French football since joining Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 and he caught the attention of several clubs after providing 7 goals and 9 assists last season.
The Guardian claimed that Arsenal and Tottenham have been tracking the Ivory Coast international this summer after the north London duo identified him as a key target.
Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be active during the final stages of the window having failed to make a single signing so far this summer and Seri would provide an alternative to Moussa Dembele if he was to move to White Hart Lane.
Arsene Wenger is in the market for further reinforcements and the Daily Mail claimed the Gunners boss was poised to make a formal move to sign Seri during the latter stages of the window once he had sold some of his fringe players.
However, it looks like the north London duo are set to miss out as TeamTalk are citing reports emanating from France that claim Liverpool are on the verge of securing the signing of Seri this summer.
The report states that while the 25-year-old has a £36m buyout clause in his contract, Liverpool have managed to agree terms with Nice over a deal that will see them pay just £20m – which would be an absolute bargain in today’s market.
The Reds decided to make their move after scouts watched the midfielder create eight chances for his teammates during a 2-1 defeat to Troyes last Friday night.
There is still time for Arsenal or Spurs to match Liverpool’s terms and try and hijack their proposed deal but for now it looks like the Merseysiders are closing-in on Seri and I think he’d be a superb signing for the Reds.
