Arsenal’s transfer business is seemingly not done quite yet, with reports in Germany suggesting they’re after Eintracht Frankfurt winger Ante Rebic.
Sport Bild claim Manchester United, Arsenal and Napoli are all in the race for the 24-year-old, who will play in the World Cup final on Sunday. Tottenham are also involved, having made contact with the player’s representatives weeks ago.
Bayern Munich are the fifth club with links to Rebic, with Ivica Olic claiming “Ante is one for Bayern”. However, Sport Bild don’t believe the German champions can afford a €50m fee, which is reportedly what the player would cost.
To an extent, you’d think that would also rule out Arsenal, but the Gunners have spent shrewdly so far this summer. Lichsteiner was a free transfer, Guendouzi cost €8m, and Torreira cost €30m, but only €10m will be paid this window. Then Sokratis and Leno reportedly cost €20m and €25m respectively. That’s €63m (£55m) to pay this summer.
If the club can bring in some money for the likes of David Ospina, Joel Campbell and anyone else leaving this summer, perhaps they could find the funds for one more big move. We’ll have to wait and see.
