Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is confident of striking a club record £50million deal to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette this summer after offering the forward £250,000-a-week.
The Frenchman was set to join Atletico Madrid but the La Liga giants saw their transfer ban upheld and Diego Simeone’s side cannot sign players now until January 2018.
Lacazette, 26, scored 37 goals for Lyon last term and revealed on Tuesday that he was happy to move to a club outside of the Champions League.
Wenger was seen meeting with Arsenal chief Ivan Gazidis in Nice on Monday and the Sun claim the pair discussed a £50m move for Lacazette.
The Gunners are ready to offer the France international a hefty £250,000-a-week to move to the Emirates and are acutely aware that they need to offer targets a greater financial package now that they’re outside the Champions League.
Lacazette, for his part, is open to moving to the Emirates and would rather leave Lyon this summer then wait for a move to the Vicente Calderon next term.
Manchester United have increased their interest in Lacazette over the last week after cooling their move for Antoine Griezmann.
Arsenal, though, would appear to have the upper hand and have a long-term interest in the Frenchman.
