For the most part of this season, Arsene Wenger has played Chilean International Alexis Sanchez from the flanks and he has explained the rationale behind the decision.
Arsenal completed the signing of Lucas Perez during the summer – Perez joins Giroud as another out-and-out attacker for Arsenal but Wenger claims Sanchez utilizes his ability to get behind strikers more.
Speaking on Facebook Live with BT Sport’s Jake Humphrey, Wenger said: “I play Sanchez in the middle because at the moment he scores goals.
“He has a quality of runs in behind and he’s less busy doing defensive work on the flanks.
“That allows him to contribute more to the offensive power of the team because today the full-backs go forward and he uses a lot of energy in the flanks.”
Oliver Giroud is a doubt for Arsenal game and we think Sanchez would be called up to play as the point man today.
