Arsene Wenger is set to return to France to find the players to fill the gaps that will be left by the impending departures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in 2018.

Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir is on the club’s radar after scoring 11 goals in 11 games and setting up another four goals for his team mates.

However, the Arsenal manager is still keen to bring Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar to the Emirates after he helped inspire the Ligue 1 champions to glory last season in both the league and in Europe.

The Monte Carlo-based club reached the last four of the Champions League in 2017 with their left winger responsible for creating more assists than any other player in the knock out stages.

Since August, he has one goal and three assists in the French topflight but remains one of the most exciting young talents on the continent with a wand of a left foot.

Fekir typically plays in more of a free role behind a striker as an attacking midfielder and excels at dribbling, picking passes through the final third and taking on chances himself.

Given their relative positions for their current clubs, Lemar has been tipped as a potential replacement for Sanchez down the left while the Lyon creator could step into Ozil’s place for the Gunners.

In a recent question and answers session with fans, football.london‘s Arsenal correspondent Charlie Watts explained the club’s current thinking over moves for the Ligue 1 pair.

“Arsenal have been previously interested in Fekir and Wenger will certainly be keeping a close eye on him given his performances for Lyon this season,” he wrote. “But Lemar remains Wenger’s priority this summer. He will be first choice to replace Sanchez.”
