Unai Emery wants to sell Mesut Özil to free up funds for January signings, according to reports in the English media, with Inter Milan interested.
The Daily Mail write that Unai Emery wants Arsenal to ‘find an exit route’ for Mesut Özil before the end of the January transfer window, so he can use the funds to sign reinforcements for the rest of the season.
Adam Crafton writes that Emery’s trust in his star playmaker is ‘now non-existent’.
Meanwhile, Calciomercato.it claim that Inter Milan could be the club to offer the German a way out. They are reportedly on Özil’s tracks, but they are yet to make a concrete proposal to Arsenal or the player.
These reports should certainly be taken with a pinch of salt. The Daily Mail may claim Emery wants to get rid of Özil, but the head coach himself said “not one player is for sale” in his press conference on Saturday.
Additionally, Adam Crafton has shown in the past that he’s not above writing things to rile Arsenal fans up. Most will remember him for the Arsenal-Spurs combined XI he wrote containing only Tottenham players, right before the Gunners won 2-0.
On the Inter Milan links, Christian Falk of Sport Bild claimed in December that Özil had already turned down an offer from the club in 2017. He also said the German doesn’t want to leave this winter.
