Laurent Koscielny’s Agent Denies Barca Links

Laurent Koscielny’s agent has acted quickly to deny the reports that Barcelona had contact Arsenal over a possible move for the defender. The Catalans have been linked with a move for the centre-back but Stephan Courbis, Koscielny’s agent, old French Eurosport that no club had made contact with his client.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich, now coached by former Blaugrana boss Pep Guardiola, have been associated with moves for the former Lorient defender however Arsenal are believed to want to keep hold of him. Koscielny formed a solid partnership with Per Mertesacker for the second part of last season to help Arsenal in to the last four and qualify for the Champions League. Wenger is keen to keep hold of the duo to carry on the club’s fine defensive form.

The Gunners are known for selling their star players every summer and both Bayern and Barcelona are looking to take the next lot of Arsenal’s key man this year however things are different. All their first team players, except Bacary Sagna, are contracted for a few years and the club has recently been injected handsomely with money, so they don’t need the cash.

Koscielny’s deal expires in 2017 and so any deal would purely lie with Arsenal’s willingness to sell and if they don’t want to, he will stay. The defender caused some concern a few weeks ago when he urged the club to show more ambition to try and challenge for the league and start winning titles instead of settling for fourth place finishes. However, he also expressed his happiness at the club and is sure to remain at the club over the summer to try and help the club hit the aims he was speaking of.

The summer will always throw up rumours and the Koscielny’s name will keep cropping up but the bottom line is he has four years left on his contract, stated he is happy at the club and Arsenal do not want to sell the player. This summer is a transitional period the club and a sign to show they are not a selling club so selling one of their best players would not be the ideal start despite several big name arrivals.
