£80,000-A-Week UCL Winning CB Agrees Deal, Speaks On Arsenal Interest

With Per Mertesacker ageing and likely to leave Arsenal at the end of his contract in 2017, Arsenal surely could do with the signing of an experienced Centre backs. We have been linked with the signing of various centre backs but one of them, Mats Hummels, has admitted shortly after signing a five-year contract with Bayern Munich that Arsenal never wanted him, despite reports.

The German international defender was linked with both Arsenal and Manchester United, while he was with German outfit Borussia Dortmund but he insists that the Gunners were never came after him, nor was anyone from the La Liga, contrary to rumours making the rounds.

He told Suddeutsche Zeitung “I don’t have to beat about the bush, and pretend Arsenal wanted me,”.

“There was no offer. The same applies for Spain, there was always contact but no option right now.

“That’s why I now have made the fundamental decision to continue my career in Germany.”

He revealed that at one point, he was convinced Arsenal would sign him. However, after the speculations linked him with Manchester United, he figured that Arsenal weren’t interested. The Central defender also admitted that he snubbed Manchester United in favour of Champions League football offered at Bayern Munich.

Hummels revealed, “Fundamentally, England, Spain and Germany were the relevant leagues I could see myself playing football in.”

“But at this stage there just was not that one English club where the overall package was fitting.

“The overall package means: a club which fascinates me; a club I have always wanted to join, and where the sporting constellation is right, and which of course plays Champions League football next season.

“And because of the latter one club was ruled out, and you can envision which club that was.”

Hummels honesty about his decisions to join or not join Arsenal is hard to come by in modern day football, and the defender should be applauded for doing that.

Some players also often exaggerate the amount of clubs interested in them, including the value placed on them. Lot of questions will be going through the minds of Arsenal fans, including why Arsenal was not interested in signing such an experienced defender.
