5 Strikers Wenger Still Sign This Summer After Jamie Vardy Rejection

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger over the weekend revealed that he expects England International Jamie Vardy to remain at the King Power stadium.

Arsenal reportedly activated a 20 million pounds release clause in Vardy’s contract but the striker remains undecided over his proposed move to the Emirates.

Should Wenger eventually fail in his attempt to land the striker, here are five Alternatives.

Gonzalo Higuain

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain, just three years after missing out on his signature when Napoli out-bid Arsenal in the summer transfer window of 2013. Higuain later moved to Italy in a €40m deal, with Arsenal failing to land a striker and instead bringing in German International Mesut Özil in a £42.4m club-record transfer.

Higuain just had his most successful season in Italy after scoring 36 goals in 35 league matches, a feat no other player has managed in the Italian top flight. The proven goal scorer will be a good signing for the Gunners, should Wenger decide to sign him..

Mauro Icardi

The Inter Milan captain has been heavily linked with a move away from the San Siro in the summer, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United reportedly been tracking the forward.

The 23-year-old striker scored 16 Serie A goals for Inter Milan last season.

In a twist to Arsenal speculations, the player however has revealed he will absolutely be staying with Inter next season.

Michy Batshuayi

North London giant Arsenal could move for this Belgian international Michy Batshuayi to replace Danny Welbeck who is set to face a long layoff due to injury next season.

Batshuayi, is valued about £30m, and is currently wanted by both Tottenham and West Ham this summer.

It’s believed that Arsenal have been watching his progress and enquired about him in January before he signed a new contract with Marseille.

Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku, has since been linked with Arsenal, and has come out to publicly state that he will be leaving Everton this summer. He claimed that he was watching Leicester City when they collected the Premier League trophy and was overcome with desire to win it.

Lukaku, 22, has a wealth of experience, having played a lot of Premier League football for Chelsea, West Brom and Everton. The powerful striker certainly possesses the physical attributes to lead an Arsenal attacking line. The striker does have some weaknesses, he is young enough to improve and perfect his skill.

Vincent Janssen

Arsenal hardly sign superstars, they make them. That does not mean there isn’t plenty for fans to be excited about with Vincent Janssen. Janssen, 22, was last season’s top scorer in the Dutch top flight with 26 goals in 33 appearances, or an average of 0.78 per game.
