The Arsenal boss would welcome the Spaniard back with open arms after he left the club for Barcelona in 2011 for £35 million. Wenger feels it’s a huge compliment for a player of his ability to want to come back.

“I am very happy that a player of his intelligence, technical ability and knowledge of the game would come back one day.”

“I hope he is right on the two sides. That he’ll come back shows he has kept fond memories of this club.”

The midfielder spoke of his desire to return to the Gunners in a revealing interview that he also spoke about Arsenal’s current squad and their title chances as well as Arsene’s summer business.

“Özil is the man who makes the difference in the final third. He will find so much space in the Premier League and he’s a player who with space kills you. His final pass is brilliant. And he will score more goals in England than he did in Spain. He is a spectacular signing.”

“Arsenal have players who have great movement and Mathieu interprets that very well. And he runs something like 13km every match, something incredible. I am happy he is back.”

He also feels that Arsenal now have the experience that will help endure the long Premier League season which has eluded them in the past which gives the Gunners a real shot at winning the league.

“They have people there with a lot of experience like Per Mertesacker, Mikel Arteta & Lukas Podolski.”

“What the team has now is the strength of character that was maybe lacking in the past and was only every going to come with age.”
