ARSENAL have reportedly got the upper hand on Tottenham in the fight for Malcom due to head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.
Malcom has emerged as the man the Gunners want to sign to replace Manchester-bound contract rebel Alexis Sanchez.
And that has come off the back of a fine first half of the season with Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux.
Malcom’s form in France has seen him touted as one of the top prospects currently plying his trade in Europe.
It seems Mislintat has been well aware of the 20-year-old’s potential for some time though, with reports suggesting he can help pave the way to a deal.
According to The Independent, Mislintat has had Malcom in his sights since his own spell at Borussia Dortmund.
And the relationship he has with the forward’s representatives has helped give Arsenal the edge over Tottenham.
Arsenal are also willing to pay more for Malcom than their north London rivals, who’ve also bid for him this month.
Arsene Wenger’s side are said to be offering £40m (€45m) compared to Tottenham’s £31m (€35m) proposal.
Bordeaux want just over £44m (€50m) for Malcom but Arsenal may be able to twist their arm
Arsenal and Tottenham both missed a trick last summer when Malcom was available for £16m (€18m).
The Corinthians youth product was offered around to top clubs but none made a move for him.
Sanchez, meanwhile, now looks set to join Manchester United having been top of Manchester City’s wish list.
