Freiburg star Caglar Soyuncu has confirmed that Arsenal are interested in signing him this summer.
Soyuncu, 22, has made 55 appearances for Freiburg since joining the club back in 2016 and is regarded as one of the most talented young defenders in the Bundesliga.
However, the Turkish centre-back is being heavily linked with a move away from Germany in the coming months, with the Gunners eyeing a £35million deal.
Arsenal’s head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, is understood to be behind the bid to land Soyuncu ahead of the 2018/19 campaign. Asked about rumours linking with with a switch to the Emirates, Soyuncu responded:
‘Arsenal are one of the most important clubs in England.
‘I know they’re interested in me, but there’s nothing finalised yet about my transfer. ‘After the national team camp we’ll have talks.’
Soyuncu’s agent, Mustafa Dogru, revealed last month that the defender is keen on a move to England. He told football.london: ‘Yes, he is ready. ‘He came from the second division in Turkey to Bundesliga 1 and has had a good experience the last two years.
‘The difference between Bundesliga 1 and the Premier League is not as big as from the Turkish second division and Bundesliga 1, so he is ready.
‘He is perfect for the Premier League. We are sure he is going to make a big impact in the first season.’
