Arsenal will face competition from Newcastle for Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron, according to reports.
The 23-year-old Paraguayan had an impression season with MLS side Atlanta United, and could make the move to Europe. According to Calciomercato, Arsenal and Newcastle are tracking the attacking-midfielder who the Mirror believe would cost just £15m.
Almiron enjoyed an impressive first season with MLS expansion club Atlanta United. His nine goals and eight assists in 30 MLS appearances helped the side to a fourth-placed finish in the Eastern Conference, which was enough to get into the play-offs for the MLS Cup. They were eliminated from the first round by Colombus Crew.
He joined Atlanta from Argentinian club Lanus in January 2017 and has three caps for Paraguay. However, with no European citizenship, Almiron would likely struggle to get a work permit to play in England.
The 23-year-old plays mainly behind the striker as a number ten, but can also operate on either flank. Arsenal could lose a lot of creativity in the summer should they be unable to extend the contracts of Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil.
They would certainly need a new attacking-midfielder, but will likely go for a more proven European player, in my opinion.
