Arsene Wenger had been accused of being frugal in the transfer market but the French tactician proved his critiques wrong last summer when he spent almost 90m Pounds.
According to the Mirror, Arsenal have entered to race to sign 52million Pounds rate Benfica attacker Goncalo Guedes.
The 19-year-old winger, dubbed as the new Cristiano Ronaldo, ascended the grades of Benfica and broke into the first team last term. He has started in six games for the Primera Liga side this term. He’s scored one goals and provided two assists so far.
However, Arsenal are not the only club in the chase of the player. Manchester United have had their scout watching the player and Arsenal will face a stern competition to sign the player.
Any move won’t be easy, however, as the Lisbon giants hold all the cards with five years to run on Guedes’ current deal. That said, with agent Jorge Mendes behind the scenes, a big-money move is not likely to be too far away.
But Wenger will be the last manager to pay the price quoted for the player.
